Al Davis, Stoneware Sculpture
|
Artist Statement“Clay offers an excellent medium for spontaneous expression of the sculptural process. My work takes advantage of this to create what I consider to be household sculpture. The range of emotion that can be conveyed varies from seriousness to humor to satire. Because of the spontaneous quality of the medium, much of my inspiration is derived from the moment. In a more practical sense, the quality of clay to endure allows the creation of work that survives both indoors and out. Fountains, wall sculpture, lighting fixtures are among the many possibilities. I've worked in the medium for over 40 years and have yet to feel I have exhausted all these possibilities.” BiographyAl Davis has been creating humorous stoneware sculptures for over forty years and his work resides in both public and private collections nationally and internationally. He graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and then held the position of Artist in Residence at MIT. He was an Exhibit Specialist at the Smithsonian Institution and taught at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC. He currently maintains studios in both Wellfleet and Provincetown Massachusetts. Back to Celebrations: |
