Rachel Girshick, Fine Jewelry

Artist's Statement

“My specialty is in fine jewelry design and construction, utilizing Sterling Silver, 14k & 18k Gold, and gemstones. Growing up under the guidance of my parents, both talented artist-entrepreneurs who ran a successful custom jewelry store instilled in me an intensive and extensive love of the arts. My mother was a designer and pattern maker for Mainbocher & Castillo with Elizabeth Arden. My father was an accomplished artist, designer, metalsmith, and jeweler.

There are few facets of the arts that I have not experienced. From drawing and graphics, to sculpture, writing, music, and theatre. I have been able to synthesize the experiences of the varied disciplines through design concept, creation, and marketing of my collection called The Silver Web. Over the years, prestigious galleries, museums, jewelry stores, and boutiques around the country, have purchased and exhibited jewelry from the Silver Web collection.

Many of the designs in The Silver Web collection are inspired by a close affinity for nature joined with an intuitive feel for form and fluidity. The various designs that make up the collection, attest to this.

Biography

Throughout the school years, I was exposed to a broad range of art courses, which gave me a strong background for jewelry design. The Silvermine Art Guild of Ct., and The Jewelers Institute of Rhode Island are some of the places where I received instruction. Private classes with accomplished artisans made up another aspect of my formal education, including a certificate award for a diamond grading course with a GIA trained instructor.

My work has won awards in various craft & art shows around the northeast. In 1986 Tiffany & Co. placed an order with me.
