Bill Herzfeld, Found Object Art
|
"My art is my arena for artistic & personal growth. As a self-taught artist, I constantly explore, experiment and take risks. When I am asked why, ‘this is the fun part, why be normal’, is my reply. When asked to describe my art, I respond that I make ‘stuff out of stuff’, what I call uncommon art. There’s more than that though, old and found pieces are combined with new pieces, and things are hammered and heated for texture with copper, stainless steel or other materials often used. Small details are the norm, so that when the viewer looks closer or for a second time, there are new things to be seen. Everything has a sense of whimsy – giant bugs are eating parts
of old machines and discarded things take on a new life as part of my
creations. Discarded bike fenders become parts of cattails and vintage
croquet mallets become giant dragonflies. Old industrial light bulbs become
giant insects. Flowers, plants, bugs, alligators, animals, figures and
large wind sculptures made from old discarded tanks are all hand made,
all made one at a time, each different, distinct and unique. Back to Celebrations: |
