Artist Statement:"When painting, I have always felt a sense of fulfillment, that my life was enriched and complete. Subjects that show life and expression like people, flowers and landscapes have been my focus. Recently, during the past three years I have been painting landscapes on a regular basis and enjoying it. I paint the scenery at home and on my travels, often painting outside
on location. Using my canon rebel xt, I take photos of the views that
interest me, often working from them at a later time. I usually begin
my filling my canvas with a field of color and pushing the limits of realism
- painting outside first then finishing back in my studio. The places
I visit become vivid canvases of color attracting the viewer’s eye.
The most striking feature of my paintings is the colors that are vibrant
and just on the edge of being unrealistic. I often work with complementary
colors using a little bit of red to accent a color of interest." BiographyI had been teaching art on the high school level at Killingly High School and Woodstock Academy for 35 years. I was the department chair for about 28 years and throughout these years I have been painting off and on when my life gave me the opportunity. I have now begun my retirement from teaching and look forward to more painting time. For the past four summers, I have enrolled in the Castle Hill Arts Center in North Truro, Cape Cod and have taken classes in plein air painting. That one week intensive week restores my energy and excites my creativity. The artists that teach the classes have contributed greatly and encouraged me – they have influenced my painting immensely and inspired me to continue painting. I have not stopped painting since taking these classes. As far as participation in art events, I have had work accepted in the Connecticut Women Artist Show and more recently in the Connecticut Artist Show at the Slater Memorial Art Museum in Norwich, CT.
