Artist Statement
“Art has been a passion and a part of my life since I can remember.
What I create or the medium used may change from time to time, but I am
always creating and evolving within my art.
A number of years ago, I decided to work with gourds, one of nature's
many gifts. Once the gourds are mature, they are picked and dried. The
process continues with cleaning, cutting and sanding. Various types of
finishes are used and once the finish is completed, beads or other decorative
items may be added. Each gourd is unique and you will notice irregularities
in each piece provided by nature. I call the finished pieces "Spirit
Bowls". This description or name is used as each bowl has its own
personality or spirit. Some are fun, some more serious, some warm and
others, cool. Regardless of the nature, all are one of a kind.
I have always loved glass and work with fused glass as well. Each piece
is unique and typically used in the jewelry I create.* I look for color,
depth, sparkle, complexity and shape in each piece. You may notice different
colors becoming more prominent depending on the light or what it is worn
with.
Art should be a part of everyone's life. Enjoy it!”
Biography
As far back as I can remember, I have had a love of art and the desire
to make it part of my life. While at college, UCONN, I took a few art
classes but had to pass on most in order to keep on the path of my primary
studies, Spanish and Education.
I am mostly self taught and have worked in water color, oils, acrylics
and papers. In addition to the above, I have also worked with clay, wood,
metal clay, gourds and fused glass. Today, gourds, metal clay and fused
glass are my primary areas of focus.
Currently, I teach fused glass at "Art and Soul" in Windsor.
I am also working toward having my art become my career. To that end,
I am in the process of setting up a studio which will give me more freedom
to work and experiment.
