Katherine Nilsson, Watercolor Artist
|
"Art and design has been a lifelong passion of mine, but it wasn't until my first trip to Europe that I seriously pursued painting. I fell in love at once with the red tiled roofs and white stucco buildings of the Mediterranean as well as the onion domes and stone architecture of northern and central Europe. As a visual person, I experience and internalize a place by sorting out rhythms and color through painting. My heroes are American and European impressionists for their color and sense of light, and the post impressionists and early modernists for their use of pattern and unique composition. I also admire the belle-epoque illustrators for their ability to convey story through image." Combining her love of painting, travel, and cultural studies, Katherine Nilsson's paintings reflect the color, patterns and rhythms of the places she has been. Starting out primarily as a watercolorist due to her travels, she now is working in oils, derived from her sketches while abroad. Katherine has a special passion for pottery and crafts, fueled by her study of Anthropology. She has used this to present her painting "Venice Canals" as a beautiful scarf. Suitable for hanging or wearing, her scarves are available for sale at Celebrations. Back to Celebrations: |
