"The Colors of Celebrations"
Art Exhibition

May 6, 2008, Pomfret, CT . . . Celebrations Gallery & Shoppes invites you to the "Colors of Celebrations" Art Exhibition, featuring oil paintings of Emily Boosahda and abstracts of Bernice Harmyk. The exhibition will run from May 16 - June 29, 2008. An Opening Reception on Friday, May 16 from 5 to 8 pm will offer complimentary refreshments and a chance to meet and chat with the artists. All are welcome to these free events.

Artist Emily Boosahda resides in West Boylston, MA, and paints in oils, watercolors and acrylics. Over her career, she has received more than sixty awards in National and Regional competitions and has been published in American Artists of Renown, Who's Who in American Art, Women in the Arts, School Arts Magazine, Boston Globe, Worcester Telegram & Gazette, as well as featured in radio, television, talk shows, and interviews. Her work is in public and private collections worldwide. Boosahda was selected to represent Central Massachusetts as sole exhibiting artist in painting for the Worcester Pushkin City International Delegation, in Pushkin Russia. As a dedicated teacher of 30 years and a board member of the National Art Education Association, Emily has worked diligently to plan Art Festivals and to bring art to the public. "I strive to use my work to express my dreams for harmony and love among all peoples. I see the joys and beauty of our environment, intertwined with our everyday lives as being the inherent heritage of all man – and womankind. In fact, they serve as vehicles for my expressions on canvas." She will offer a free Oil Painting Lecture & Demonstration on Sunday, June 8 (1-3 pm).

Artistic inspiration from global cultures has been a lifetime journey for Artist Bernice Harmyk, a Pomfret, CT, resident. As a world traveler, Harmyk has been able to evolve artistically by immersing herself in the rich textures of foreign cultures. Her early medium was oil on canvas, using impressionistic techniques. She also studied Chinese brush techniques that gave depth and intensity to her abstract style. Harmyk begins a painting intuitively, working with inks, watercolors, acrylics and a wide variety of materials. She layers colors and textures on the surface of the painting and then creates markings in to the work. For Bernice, art and travel have been a source of inspiration for the journey of joy and discovery in her life. Her paintings are in private collections in Washington DC, Virginia, New York and Connecticut. Bernice will offer a free " Impressions in Abstraction" Lecture on Sunday, June 22 (1-3 pm).
