"Summertime at Celebrations"
Art Exhibition
June 20, 2008, Pomfret, CT . . . Celebrations Gallery & Shoppes invites you to the "Summertime at Celebrations" Art Exhibition, featuring mixed media collages of Regina Thomas, photography of Robert Thomas and fused glass artwork of Nancy McGrath. The exhibition will run from July 18 – August 31, 2008. An Opening Reception on Friday, July 18 from 5 to 8 pm will offer complimentary refreshments and a chance to meet and chat with the artists. Each artist will also give a lecture or chat… details below. All are welcome to these free events.
Artists
Regina & Robert Thomas are husband
& wife who have lived abroad for extended periods in Europe and Asia
but now reside in Connecticut. Regina began her artistic training in England
and continues to refine her craft in the US at Rhode Island School of Design,
Yale University and other prestigious art centers in New England. After
debuting her work in 2002, Regina received several first place awards. She
currently specializes in collage and mixed media and is featured in numerous
local and national juried shows plus galleries in Massachusetts, Connecticut
and South Carolina.
"My work is an ongoing process involving different genres from representational to the abstract," says Thomas. "What motivates me is pushing the envelope, taking risks in these multi-layered collages. I love injecting visuals and textures that beckon my viewers to get close." Regina will offer a Mixed Media Collage Discussion on Sunday, July 27th (1-3 pm).
Photographer
Robert Thomas has documented his world since the mid-twentieth
century. His themes are inspired by urban and rural landscapes, imagery
captured in reflective surfaces, weathered and worn structures, and the
beauty and fragility found in nature. He has traveled the world, inspired
by the religious, architectural, and cultural diversity he has been fortunate
to define through his lens.
“An engineer by training, I enjoy the camera's ability to accurately capture the moment and reflect the vision of what I see. I have learned not just to document but to apply the creative aspects of composition and the freedom offered with digital image processing. Through this I work to create a more engaging representation of my field of view.” Robert’s work has won awards in juried shows on the east coast. He exhibited in a solo show last spring in Massachusetts and numerous shows in MA, CT, and Hilton Head SC. Robert will offer a "Photographer's Field of View" Presentation on August 3rd (1-3PM)
Nancy
McGrath is a Woodstock, CT, glass artist who has been fascinated with
color and design since childhood. These passions, her education in fashion
and graphic design, and her appreciation of nature form the foundation for
Nancy's current success as an artist in the Quiet Corner. “It wasn’t
until I discovered Kiln Formed Glass and fusing that I was able to combine
my education with my passion for creativity," says McGrath. "The
glass fusing process requires great precision and experimentation. I am
challenged daily and thrilled by the fact that I can combine my love for
color, texture and design to create custom products for the home and business.”
Nancy will offer an Informal Chat on Fused Glass Techniques on Sunday,
August 31st (1-3 pm).
