Rett Hart,Acrylics & "Oppoflage"

Artist Statement:“In the seventh grade I developed an interest in the basic shapes that made up my drawings. This developed throughout my art school years and continues today. In the 1980’s, with the creative use of a copy machine, I discovered shapes that I now call “Oppoflage.” Oppoflage is minimalistic and can stimulate thoughts in a creative mind. The art was copyrighted in 1985 under the title “Oppoflage” because its effects are the opposite of camouflage. The original shapes that were created on the copy machine had to be cropped out and enlarged with a “close up lens”. An artistic decision dictated the cropped areas. Those areas symbolized objects like a car, an eagle, a cat face, electric circuitry, and a series of cartoon faces. During the past few years, I have incorporated the Oppoflage shapes in to shapes of my own making to produce images that are more easily recognized.” BiographyRett earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Hartford and studied at Paier School of Art. He also earned an Associate’s Degree in Arts and Science from Middlesex Community College. His work has been exhibited in the Pfizer juried show, Real Art Ways, Rose Farm Gallery and Riverview Children’s’ Hospital. Back to Celebrations: |
