Siegfried Schultz, Birdhouses
![]() |
“Trained in Germany as a fourth generation blacksmith, I moved to the United States, continued my training and became a master welder. After many years and a few career changes, I went back to welding after my retirement, only this time, creatively making floor stand candle holders, railings, hinges and hooks. The only problem was that I wasn't enjoying it. Having made furniture for my children when they were young, I realized that I really enjoyed woodworking. I had been making furniture for several years, when my son-in-law came to me with a photo from a gardening catalog, and asked me if I would make a birdhouse similar to the one shown. 'That seems like a lot of fussy little work,' I told him, but gave it a try. Since that first birdhouse, eight years ago, I developed four designs incorporating cherry, cedar, mahogany, maple as well as re-purposed wood. They are for sale in two locations in Aurora, Ohio and at Celebrations in Pomfret Center, Connecticut where my daughter resides." Back to Celebrations: |
