Artist Statement
“I have loved glass for many years (looks like candy!), and started
working with glass in 2006. It's a lot of trial and error at first until
you learn exactly what works -- and, more importantly, what doesn't. I
enjoy creating fun and bright things that make people happy or laugh.
I'm vegetarian and LOVE cats! My cats are: Timone, Clark and Eliza, and
Clark is the inspiration for many of my "cat-themed" items.
I donate both my work (for fundraising auctions) and a portion of all
my sales to the local Humane Society and no-kill shelters to help animals
in need! So, when people buy something I have made they can feel good
knowing they are also helping the animals!
I design and make each item with great care and attention to detail to
ensure it is beautiful and the highest quality. I start by sketching an
idea on paper. I then select the colors of glass, cut the glass to size
and shape with a variety of glass-cutting tools, assemble/decorate the
piece and fire it in one of my kilns. Pieces are often fired to different
temperatures or fired multiple times to get the right look. They are then
finished by adding ribbon, copper wire, a metal stake, etc. so they are
ready to hang or display. I am thrilled to have been named "Artist
of the Year for 2010" by Made in Washington stores, which carries
a large variety of my fused-glass garden stakes, ornaments, night lights,
dishes and more!”
