Merideth Berthiaume, Wood Burning Art
|
Artist Statement"My first love is nature at its best, in its most colorful and basic state. Favorite subjects are birds, eagles, butterflies and flowers. Animals inspire me, their eyes captivate my thoughts and I must create them in my way. No animal is off limits. I also create some scenes of lighthouses and farms...etc. I enjoy merging any combination of the above into an original work. I prefer movement of some kind in the art as a challenge. Lately I've been getting to the idea of an onlooker, child or beautiful
woman looking into the piece with her hair intertwining with the flora
and fauna. The full color woodburning is so amazing and unusual; you've
never seen anything like it. The way the light plays over the hills and
crevices is so different, it almost looks like a carving, but... better. BiographyMerideth has been woodburning since the age of twelve. She is well known for her airbrushing ability and working with various techniques and in different mediums since the 1980's. Now primarily focused on pyrography (woodburning); burning deeply into natural wood surfaces. The full-color realism in her work is incredibly detail oriented; the animals come to life. Merideth has been creating beautiful and unusual custom designs for prominent homes and businesses. This artist has already burned art into many an unfinished wood surface. Including but not limited to, coffee tables, book boxes and book cases, bar tops, wall hangings, pool tables and many more wooden pieces. She was invited into one gentleman's home and asked to burn birds into the contemporary beams. “I am excited to have builders creating mirror frames with plenty of room for my art. I also have my new favorite; park benches being built that are absolutely splendid. A must see. The perfect "canvas for my work!” Merideth has been recently seen in several juried art and craft shows
throughout the central Massachusetts and Connecticut area. Back to Celebrations: |
