Katie Samuelson, Handpainted Furniture

Artist Statement

The concept for “reStyled furnishings” grew out of my passion for art and my profession as an interior designer. In addition I have always been concerned about preservation of the environment, so it made sense to undertake the recycling and repurposing of used furniture. Not only do I enjoy creating new style for an old table, chair, picture frame or mirror, I am reusing old pieces that might otherwise be discarded. Each item is transformed into a one of a kind piece.

ReStyled furnishings pieces are found at thrift shops and tag sales, or given to me by people who no longer have a use for them. They are repaired, sanded, painted with several coats of water based paint and finished with additional coats of clear polycrylic. New hardware and decorative knobs are installed as needed. Additional decorative materials have included papers, beads, mosaic tiles, old record albums and hand painted designs.

In addition to the completed reStyled furnishings, customers may request custom restyling for pieces from my used inventory or for their own furniture pieces.

I am passionate about “recycling with style” with reStyled furnishings!
